Prior to retirement, I lived and worked in Beijing China for fourteen years (Middle School Principal/Deputy Director at The Western Academy of Beijing). Leaving international life behind, my husband and I retired to Vancouver Island in June 2015. To document both this transition and our new adventures, ‘Retirement Reflections’ was born. I hope that you enjoy reading these reflections, and will be willing to share your own.

Am doing a massive tidy up in my home, not spring cleaning as such but in prep for people coming to stay, one from Wednesday for several days and a couple on Friday for a few nights -also good friends. My study has been the biggest challenge but I’m almost there! Happy spring cleaning Donna! You look very professional 👀
Thanks, Susan – My burst of Spring (household) cleaning is now done. I also got a start on cleaning out my digital photo albums on both my computer and my phone. I did say ‘start’. Definitely more to do. I hope that your company and your own Spring cleaning went well. I will drop by your site now to check in.
Enjoy your break, Donna! I’m back to SS next week and I look forward to your return after your break. I feel like I’m in perpetual spring cleaning these days, lol!🤣
Hi, Ingrid – I also snuck in lots of downtime into my break which was wonderful. Now I just have to find a way to maintain the balance! I look forward to your next post.
Oh, but we’ll miss you! I’ve been spring cleaning during the winter – seemed to be a good Covid-at-home activity. But enjoy your break – I hope you get in more long walks and shorter cleaning time. :–) xo
Thank’s Pam – I did get lots of hikes in … and downtime. Win-win all around.
Speaking of win-win, I love your recent Dancing with the Stars story. Very inspiring!
Thanks, Janet – One house was enough for Spring Cleaning. Actually, it was more than enough! 😀 Congratulations on completing the A – Z Challenge. Very well done!
Thanks, Ally and Joanne – I did sneak in a few other things during my break. But it was also good to get some household jobs done that I have been long avoiding. I look forward to catching up!
I must admit, my cleaning has taken a bit of a break during the pandemic. No visitors, no problem! Now that we are comfortable enough to have an occasional double doser in the house, I’ve become more tidy. As it is, my closet and my pantry are begging me for some attention. Maybe I’ll join you on break 🙂
HI, Janis – I love your “No visitors, No problem” mantra. Now that I am done my Spring cleaning, I simply need restrictions to lift so that we can have company over. I promise to deep clean again before you arrive in August. Greatly looking forward to it! 😀
I’d say “have fun” but I guess it’s more ‘nose to the grindstone and get it done’ stuff. Hope it all goes smoothly and you’ll be back soon with a shiny house xx
Happy cleaning, Donna! We recently did this in 90+ degrees Fahrenheit in Zesty, but for other reasons… Enjoy the little blogging break. I should do this too when other endeavors call. But, blogging is a good excuse to postpone those other, more pressing endeavors. 🙂
Happy cleaning, Donna. It sounds like you are geared up for it and good to take a blogging break too. Hope you get heaps of cleaning done. Happy Spring 🙂
I just discover your blog, and you’re not here. Checks calendar quickly – oh phew – only a few days until you return! Clicking the follow button right now.

The most satisfying thing of spring cleaning for me is getting rid of some of the clutter we’ve acquired over the years.
It feels funny to say enjoy your cleaning, but it’s one of those things we need to do periodically, (like going to the dentist.)
