What’s Been On Your Calendar? The Book Lovers Encoded Edition.

After a whirlwind late December/early January filled with family, friends, festivities, and food, Richard and I gifted each other a small getaway with warmth and winding down as top priorities. Although the winding down part didn’t exactly happen, the weather has been fabulous.

On my Facebook page, I posted random pics from our travels each with a single heading. What I didn’t mention was that each caption is the title of a literary work (hint: one is a poem, two are songs, the rest are novels — three of which have been made into movies). Ready to play?

Here are the photos with their captions as posted (in chronological order):

Stairway to Heaven

And here are the authors/artists (in alphabetical order):
Michael Cecchi
John Donne
E.M. Forster
Amy Holden Jones
Colleen Hoover
Gordon Lightfoot
Robert Plant/Jimmy Page
Joanne Tracey
Virginia Woolfe

How many titles with their authors can you match (without Google, AI or phoning a friend)? Please let me know in the comments below.

As always, Debbie, Jo, Sue and I would love for you to join us to share What’s Been On Your Calendar. We look forward to hearing from you.

This officially concludes my blogging break. As a health issue has arisen with my parents (thus the lack of winding down) Richard and I will head back to Kelowna after we leave here. I will do my best to keep in touch.

  1. Nice lateral thinking young Donna! I’m impressed with with your eruditeness (is that even a word?) I’m lucky to remember which book title I’m actually reading atm – let alone ones long gone and applying them to photos! Great job x

    1. I echo Leanne’s sentiment!

Hopefully, it’s only a Wrinkle in Time with the health issues. I Love, Actually your brilliant idea of labeling photos like you did, this comment is a small tribute to your brilliance 🤓

I must ask: was it only Robert Plant and Jimmy Page who were responsible for Stairway to Heaven and not all of Led Zeppelin

      1. Thank you so much for stopping by with such a great comment. According to my research powers that be (okay, Google), Robert Plant wrote the Stairway to Heaven lyrics while Jimmy Page wrote the music. I am very happy to be corrected if this is wrong. ❤

  2. I can only match 2: Gordon Lightfoot’s Sundown & Stairway to Heaven by Plant & Page. Both pictures are awesome. From where I’m sitting, it seems you have a good life.

    1. Hi, Mona – It is a very good life. And when I read your comments I always think that about your life as well. I just finished reading Matt Haig’s ‘The Midnight LIbrary’ which talks about exactly that. If you have the time, I highly recommend it. I think you would quite enjoy it.

  4. Well, I am always very poor at the matching music to artists, but Gordon Lightfood and Sundown for the WIN!! I’m glad you got away, but I’m sorry to hear about the parental health issues. I totally know that feeling.

    1. Hi, Bernie – I was originally going to go with “Wild Sky” by Suzanne Brockman but eventually thought that Gordon Lightfoot would be a more popular choice. Thank you for your kind words and kindred spirit on parental aging. It’s been a difficult time to be away and one of the reasons that I am currently hesitant to travel.

  5. I saw your posting with the gorgeous photos on Facebook. I loved the captions, now you revealed the mystery. Sorry to hear you have to cut your winding down short because of the health issues of your folks. Take care of them and you both. 🙂

  6. Very clever captioning. I got 6 off the top of my head. Of course Room with a View and to the Lighthouse, two favourite books of mine so easy. Sorry to
hear about your parents health issues. We are dealing with similar issues. I felt guilty going off toThailand and leaving hubby to deal with it. Sigh

  7. You are so inventive. I know a few of them, but I’d have to really stretch my brain to get more than three or four – make that one or two. I love the idea, though. I hope your parents are better. They are lucky to have you. I’ll be praying for them. 🙂 Lots of hugs. 🙂

    1. Hi, Marsha – I tried to write this reply a couple of times pool side, but the internet powers that be were not with me so I am trying again from my room. I believe this challenge was quite tricky, so knowing one or two of the artists is excellent. I greatly appreciate you playing along. Even more so, I appreciate your warm thoughts and prayers for my parents. It is definitely challenging times.

  8. OMG Donna, you never cease to amaze me with your creative thinking! I would never have thought of a post like this to incorporate your two loves (after Richard and family of course) – reading and travel. I loved it! Take care my friend and thanks for being such a wonderful, intelligent and fabulous co-host and above all my friend. xx

  9. I had no idea Mystic Pizza was a book; here in the states (and in my state where it was filmed!) it’s mostly a famous movie.

    1. Hi, Joanne – Apparentily when the author was vacationing in Mystic one summer, she saw the pizza parlor and was inspired to write the story. After the movie came out, the real Mystic Pizza shop became so popular, lines would stretch to the sidewalk and patrons would regularly steal mementos from the restaurant. Another piece of random trivia learned from this blog~! 😀 Thanks so much for stopping by and playing along.

  10. I love this Donna. You are very clever. I only managed a couple without straining the brain too much. I hope the family health issues are resolved quickly.

  11. I can only do three without looking up (Stairway to Heaven, To the Lighthouse) and Room with a View). Wish You Were Here means Roger Waters to me and I see I am not alone! I’m sorry to hear about your parents’ health issues: I hope they can be resolved. I empathise with the worrying over elderly parents.

    1. Hi, Anabel – You get a four which is a very high score (and currently ties for second place). When I first captioned the photos, I only used book titles. When I later included song titles I should have added the Roger Waters option. I greatly appreciate you playing along. ❤

  12. What a great response to the prompt and how clever of you to include book title names to your images, Donna. I saw the one of Richard with the pizza on FB with Mystic Pizza but didn’t think anything about it other than I remembered the movie. I’m glad you included these in your post. Great collection and your images are quite beautiful!

    1. Hi, Ally – I agree that the movie for Mystic Pizza was much more famous than the book. The book was inspired by the author’s visit to Mystic and the pizza parlour there. I love little behind the scene tidbits like that. Thank you for playing along!

  13. I did poorly on the match-up, Donna, but I did thoroughly enjoy your photos and creativity with the headings. It looks like you had a wonderful getaway!

  14. This was really clever Donna and I managed to get a few! But like Jo I thought of Pink Floyd for Wish you Were Here. Love Jo’s book being included 🙂 You really are very creative and fun despite all that’s going on. xx

  15. Hi Donna – I flunked … got two Woolfe and Forster, I didn’t get Donne … while the music ones – I could guess from the one image – but who sang or wrote them … sadly are not part of my brain abilities and I won’t mention whom I thought of for Stairway to Heaven – not a good man. So pleased you’re having a good time … but feel for you with your parents various … and hope there’ll be happier times ahead. Cheers … and I do have a post up – another on Thursday … but when you’re ready! Hilary

    1. Thanks, Hilary – knowing 2 of the authors/artists is quite good in my books! There’s been lots of ups and downs with my parents while we’ve been on this trip. Thankfully, my stepfather’s sister happened to be in town this week and was incredibly helpful. Richard and I will head straight to Kelowna from here and be the next part of the tag team.

  16. You’re too clever Donna. I only got three, but am quite impressed with that due to my short attention span. I saw in tone of your comments that you enjoyed the midnight Library, I have just finished Matt Haig’s latest book, How to Stop Time and thought it was wonderful.
