This month’s ‘What’s On Your Plate?’ will go live on Wednesday, August 4. My cohost, Deb, and I would love for you to join in. Let us know something that’s been on your plate this past month. It could be breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, dine-in or dine-out. You can share with a simple photo, a few words or an entire post. No entry is too big or too small. #Whatsonyourplateblogchallege
To show our gratitude to all What’s On Your Plate contributors, we have prepared WOYP Contributor Badges. If you have shared a recipe with us (yup, even one time counts), you are most welcome to screenshot this badge and display it on your site. Instructions to do this can be found here. If you would prefer to use a jpg image rather than a screenshot, just let me know. I would be happy to email one to you.

New! On Friday, August 20, I will be joining Sue, Debbie and Jo to kick-off ‘What’s On Your Bookshelf?’. Here, we encourage you to share your favourite books or recent reads. This series will go live on the third Friday of each month (Australia) / Thursday afternoon (North America). As with ‘What’s On Your Plate,’ the goal is to keep it simple and inspire others with your recommendations. You can share in the comments, with a blog post, on Instagram or any other social media of your choice. Include the hashtag #Whatsonyourbookshelfchallenge so that we can find you and include your link in our posts.
The Contributor Badge for What’s On Your Bookshelf is currently being decided. If you have any feedback on this, we would love to hear your thoughts.
Deb, Sue, Debbie, Jo and I hope that you will join us. Please don’t hesitate to let one of us know if you have questions on either linkup.

To get the ball rolling, here’s what I am currently reading.

And here’s a quick snap of something that was recently on my plate: Deep-Fried Icecream. Yes, it was as delicious and decadent as it looks and sounds.

Read Jo’s Version Here.
Read Debbie’s Version Here.
And Sue’s Version Here.
See you in August!
Stunning Donna, you never cease to amaze me with what you get up to! I love both these ideas and am happy to be involved with you on the What’s on your bookshelf challenge. I look forward to seeing what others are reading, I think because I am such a sticky beak 🙂

Thanks, Debbie – A friend that I worked with in Beijing commented on FB today that it is a good thing that I am retired. She said that retirement for me looks like a full-time job. It kinda is … and I wouldn’t have it any other way. 😀
BTW – I had to look up ‘sticky beak’ to see if my guess was correct! It was on both accounts (1. Australian phrase, 2. Inquisitive person). I love learning new phrases!

I laughed at you looking up ‘stickybeak’ 🙂 but I’m not surprised!

Deep Fried Ice cream is a comforting fave. It’s almost enough of a reason to buy an air fryer IMHO. I have my WOYP ready to go!

You make your own deep-fried ice-cream?!! You truly are my hero.
Super cool that you already have your WOYP ready to go. I look forward to reading it.

Reading and eating – two of my favorite activities. Cool about the badges. And, I’ve never had fried ice cream. I would love to try that one day. Sounds… contradictory. And delicious. 🙂

Deep-Fried Ice-Cream does sound contradictory, but it was firm and delicious. Reading and eating are two of my favourite activities as well. Throw in friends and you have a perfect trifecta! I hope that all is well for you, Mark and Maya.

Books and ice cream…yummy! I think I need to put fried ice cream on my bucket list. I’ve never tried it. Currently, my bookshelf is overflowing!

Thanks so much, Jill. I know all about overflowing bookshelves. But there is one special new book on my shelf that I can’t wait to share on woybs. I may save that for the Seotember addition so that I can spotlight it. Stay tuned.

Books and food… how could it get any better! I don’t think I’ve ever had deep fried ice cream… perhaps I need to fix that oversight.
LikeLike
Definitely an oversight worth fixing. But word of warning, deep-fried icecream can be quite filling — so find a partner to share with (or be very, very hungry)!
I wholeheartedly agree – books, food and friends – what could be better?
Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Hi, Ju-Lyn – It seems that so many people had already heard about deep-friend ice-cream before me. I can’t believe that it took me so long to discover it!
Thank you for your positive feedback on our new challenge. I can’t wait to get it started.

Thanks for looking up “sticky beak,” Donna, because I was just about to until I read your comment. Would love to know how that expression began. As writers, we all need to be sticky beaks, indeed. Now… I have never heard of fried ice cream, and but I know that if I tried it, I’d love it. Looking forward to the ‘whatsonyourbookshelfchallenge.” I have so many books in my (virtual) bookshelf it will be hard to choose. I’ll probably go with an Indie author, because we need all the promo we can get!

Hi, Pam – I am delighted that you will be joining us for WOYBS. I would love for you to share both what you are reading and what you have been writing.
I checked Wiktionary for the etomology of ‘Sticky Beak’. According to them, this term presumably comes from the metaphor of sticking one′s beak (“nose”) where it is not wanted. Makes sense to me!

Ohhhh, yikes. I do my best not to have a sticky beck, particularly with my kids, but they’d probably disagree. 🙂

Oh, I am so excited for the Bookshelf Challenge! And thank you Donna, for creating the badges!!! You credited me as being a co-creator of these but I want the (blogging) world to know it was your brilliant creativity, alone….for which I am forever in your debt. Sorry for the late response to your post, but as you know things have been a little “not normal” in my world lately. Forgive me…

Let’s reflect. What’s On Your Plate was your idea and you kindly invited me to cohost. You brainstormed with me so that we were both comfortable with all aspects of the challenge. And, whenever I came up with a new twist (like the badges), you have been 100% supportive with a “Yes, let’s do it” / “Go for It” attitude. That sounds like awesome teamwork to me!
