    1. Thanks, Sue – The festive season continues to be alive and well in Parksville, BC. We’ve had eleven wonderful days filled with family and nine more to go. I plan to cherish every minute of it. Sending warm hugs your way.

  1. Donna, a beautiful post celebrating the best of life and it is brimming with love, joy, family and friends, fun and laughter! The photos paint such a vivid image, a powerful force of togetherness. Now, I wonder who won monopoly and do you find you’re as competitive as ever?! 😀

    1. Hi, Annika – Great question. I am a true softy for seeing anyone else lose (especially those I love) so I am mostly competitive only with myself. I was the first out on the first night of monopoly and I hung out with our young grandchildren on the second night. Win-win!

      1. Awww … bless … I’ve got a while to go before grandchildren but I can just imagine this is the best! I’d deliberately lose just to have the chance for an extended cuddle with them! 😀❤️

  2. This is cleverly done, Donna. I agree that this is the best recipe ever!! Whether family is near or far, they are always in our hearts. May you and your family have a fabulous 2024!!

      1. It was just the two of us and our two dogs of course. But lots of messages from the kids and grandkids. Now I’m off to see my brother in Thailand (haven’t seen him for ten years) I did make 3 trifles over Christmas though. One to share with the ageing in-laws, one for us and one to share with our sweet 11-year-old neighbour. Paul was delighted to get three trifles!!

  3. Now this is definitely my idea of cooking! So much love and joy and imperfection all rolled together into a delicious and memorable meal (or two). I loved all the photos and especially the heart and warmth that shone through x

  4. It’s obvious why your blog is so popular. Happy New Year, Donna. I’ll add this little poem since I’m endeavoring to be the community cookie lady.
    No Cookie Jar
Like the love of a mother
    It shines through our years;
It has soothed all our hurts
    And dried all our tears.
It has paid for us toiling,
    In sorrow or joy.
    It has always shown kindness
    To each girl and boy.
    And I’m sorry for people
    Whoever they are,
Who live in a house where there’s
    No Cookie Jar!
From the Wagon Camp Girls 2003 cookbook.
